Social event and site visits
During the Forum there will be opportunities to attend several site visits and a social event on 22 May 2024.

Spaces are limited and awarded on a first-come-first-served basis.

Wallonia – visit to the Vesdre Valley 08:30 – 17:00, Wednesday 22 May: Embark on an adventure through the stunning Vesdre Valley in Liège Province! Prepare to witness the remarkable tale of resilience and innovation following the 2021 floods. We'll delve into the heart of reconstruction and adaptation, exploring aspects like crisis management, urban planning, and cross-border cooperation. Brace yourself for an up-close look at the legendary Gileppe Dam, and other iconic sites symbolizing the challenges post-extreme weather. Transportation and lunch are provided.

Flanders – visit to the city of Mechelen and the Vrouwvliet river 10:30 – 17:00, Wednesday 22 May: This visit to the historic city of Mechelen will include a boat ride to explore its pioneering approaches to incorporating water and greenery in the urban landscape as well as a walk around the Vrouwvliet river to the north of the city to see ongoing ecological restoration. Transport and lunch will be provided.

Brussels – visit to Tour & Taxis / Brussels port 13:30 – 17:00, Wednesday 22 May: This exploration of the neighbourhood around Tour & Taxis includes visits to a new park where nature-based solutions are increasing quality of life, to Tivoli where an old industrial district has been transformed into a pioneering sustainable neighbourhood, and to a company turning waste into carbon-neutral building material.

Brussels – visit to Sonian Forest 13:30 – 17:00, Wednesday 22 May: This walking tour of a UNESCO World Heritage site and exceptional ecosystem will address how we can make forests more resilient, how Urban Forest Based Solutions (UFBS) can help strengthen urban population’s wellbeing and health in a changing climate, and how innovations in a circular economy can support sustainable forestry management.

The organisers will do their best to accommodate everyone who wishes to attend, but this is subject to limited capacity. You will receive a confirmation regarding your physical attendance as quickly as possible. Please do not book travel and accommodation before receiving this confirmation.
