Matthias De Moor

General Representative of Flanders to the EU

Matthias De Moor has dedicated more than a decade of his career to serving the Government of Flanders. With a strong academic background in international relations, economic sciences, and environmental technology, Matthias has been a pivotal force in shaping policy in these critical areas at both the national and European levels.

Matthias began his career as a policy officer in the international division of the Environment Department, where he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to promoting sustainable development and combating climate change. He was mainly responsible for coordinating (preparing for) the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2024 for this policy area, following up on Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals, bilateral cooperation, multilateral environmental treaties under UNECE and the international network of regions, Regions4.

Since 2022, Matthias has served as the General Representative of Flanders to the EU at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the EU. In this role, he has been instrumental in shaping Flanders’ strategic interests and priorities with the EU, while ensuring their alignment with Belgium’s broader policy objectives.

Matthias’s academic qualifications have been an important enabler of his success. His deep knowledge of international relations, economic sciences, and environmental technology have equipped him with a unique understanding of the complex interplay between economic, political, and environmental factors. This understanding has allowed Matthias to develop innovative policy solutions that connect these disparate fields and create a more sustainable, equitable future.
